An Update- Meadowhall and Boat Cruising!

Thursday, 29 September 2011

I have really been slacking with blog posts recently. It has been a crazy few weeks and I only just managed to sit down now. With the hubby out for a couple of hours and my little ones asleep, I thought I'd get an update fit in.

I was at Meadowhall shopping centre yesterday- I didn't actually purchase anything (yes I was surprised too) but did take some pictures of a few products and brands that interested me.
17 seem to have a lot of nice sets that are out. I thought the eyeshadow palette's in the top row seemed like a pretty good deal at £5 a palette. All Christmas gift sets are on offer at 3 for 2 at the moment so it can really help you to get some bargains!

Front Cover make up comes out every year and they seem to get some good reviews. I haven't actually tried their products before but they seem like a pretty affordable brand.
Soap and Glory are very popular in the UK. I'm pretty sure their products are available in the USA too now. I love their Christmas sets, they really do have great deals on!

Lastly, I was mesmerized by some products in this aisle. These are the kind of things I would love to have in my bedroom because I love little accessories like these that give character to them.

I actually came out of Meadowhall with nothing but a pair of trainers my daughter needed. For me, this definitely was an achievement; I'm not sure I feel too happy about it now though!

I also went on a little boat cruise, just here in Sheffield today. We always tend to want to go out of town to explore different places but never look into the places here. We decided to go down to Victoria Quays where there is a lovely canal.

It was incredibly hot today so it was lovely to have the breeze coming in from the window's as we cruised by. There were plenty of fishermen on the banks who waved to us as well - Well apart from one who seemed particularly bad tempered and decided to make a rude gesture- it could have been because the boat almost ran his fishing line over though, which makes it ok? =/
My little boy loved it too and was walking up and down the boat the whole time.

It was lovely to have a different sort of an afternoon mid-week when usually I am looking forward to the weekend at this point.

I have a few posts lined up in the next few days. I will get back on track now that I really feel like I have a little more time hopefully!

How have you all been? Have you been up to anything interesting recently?

Review: Mineralissima Products

Tuesday, 20 September 2011

I was recently sent a few products in the post by an online retailer called Mineralissima. The company is based in the Netherlands and they pride themselves on providing make up made from the most natural ingredients. They also don't test on animals which is something a lot of us love to know.

I was sent two concealers to try out. I apologise for the messy swatches, I was using my fingers!

The lavender concealer is meant for skin with yellow undertones. As far as I know it is supposed to illuminate skin. I didn't really feel like this worked for me because I don't have a yellow undertone.

The mint concealer however is used for redness and blemishes. I don't have very many blemishes but I get a little redness around my nose. This did actually help to reduce the redness.

I was sent five eyeshadow sample's to try out too.

I really liked these eye shadows. Those days when you don't want a crazy, colourful eye look, I think these shadows are perfect. They are all shimmery and go on pretty well. A couple of shades I did feel like I had to pack on a little more to get the colour to show but overall I thought they looked pretty and natural on the lids.

Next I was sent two shades of foundation.

The shade 2.0 was too light for me but I could possibly use it as an under highlighter? I haven't actually tried it for that purpose yet. 3.10 is a good shade for me. With it being a mineral foundation, it isn't amazing coverage, but then I don't need full coverage. This is great to use daily. It also doesn't cake up, it looks very natural.

I love blusher's so was pretty happy about getting two of these.

I am totally in love with the blush in the shade 'Sneaky'. It is a neutral, peach shade and looks so pretty on the cheeks. It doesn't seem to have much shimmer at all, at least not once the blush is applied. 'Blush' is not a favourite of mine because I feel like it would look better on fair skin tones.

The Ibiza bronzer does look very dark in the pot but is actually a really nice shade to give your face the perfect glow. I wouldn't use it to contour though, it is definitely much too light for that but maybe could be achieved with heavier application.

The Chiffon Finish is a powder to use once the rest of your make up is on. I like how fine the powder is, it also gives a soft look to the skin which makes it look a lot smoother.

Lastly, but definitely not the least is the Afterglow powder. It is a limited edition product which can be used as a bronzer, blush or an eyeshadow. It is a soft pinkish brown shade with tiny bits of gold shimmer.

I really like this powder. I have used it as a blush and it gives a gorgeous sun-kissed glow to the skin. As an eyeshadow it is a little on the light side but for an every day look, that wouldn't be too bad in my opinion. I do feel like it would a little too pink for a bronzer though.

Overall, I really enjoyed using these products. There were obviously a few that were not that great but the majority were impressive. My favourite ones are the blush in 'Sneaky', the Chiffon Finish and the Afterglow powder.

If you would like to take a look at their products, you can view them here.

My Favourite Eyeliner's

Friday, 16 September 2011

I have used many different types of eyeliner's in the past but only a few have really become favourites of mine.
ELF Shimmer pencils were one of the products I was pretty excited about when they came out. They claimed to be creamy and easy to apply. I picked up quite a few of them when they were on offer. I was very pleasantly surprised! Although they are pretty glittery, they are perfect to wear on the lower lashline. They are creamy enough to not tug at the eyes and for me they last all day.

Cargo is a brand mainly available in the USA. I hadn't heard of them until my local Boots started stocking a couple of their products. I bought the Mediterranean set which came out this summer and this liner was in the collection.  I have never come across a liner as creamy as this. I feel like I only have to lightly apply it and the pay off is amazing! The shade is beautiful too and it is waterproof which means that it doesn't budge once it is on. If I can get a hold of the black one, I will definitely pick it up.

MAC's Smolder eye liner is pretty popular in the cosmetic world. It is a lovely dark black which, on me, lasts all day without smearing or transferring. It is easy to apply and easily accessible too.

Lastly, Urban Decay's Glide-on Eyeliner pencil is another much talked about liner. I have this in Zero and it was one of the first eyeliner pencils I started using when I got into make up. I thought, and still do think that it is one of the best liners because again, it stays on all day and is very creamy.

I think eye liner's are probably one of my favourite products to use because they can really transform an eye. I enjoy experimenting with different shades but I especially love purple's and teals.

What are your favourite eye liners?

First Impressions: Glossy Box (September)

Thursday, 15 September 2011

I received my Glossybox for this month early this morning and was very excited to open it and see what I got this time.

 1. Dead Sea Spa Magik- Salt Brushing
I love body exfoliator's so this is definitely up my street. Retail price: Around £12 for a 500g pot.

2. HD Brows- Eye & Brow Palette

A lot of people have been getting really excited about the HD Brows but since my eyebrows are almost black and I never need to fill them, I doubt this would be of much use to me. I might use them as eye shadows or liner though as they can be used for this purpose. The brush will be pretty handy too. I am not sure of the exact price of this but I think it is around £20.

3. Moa- The Green Balm

This is a natural skin care balm which can be used for bumps, bites, grazes, itchy skin conditions and minor burns and a lot more. I am already liking this multi-purpose product and I haven't even used it yet! This can be bought for £9.99/50ml.

4. Neal and Wolf- harmony Intensive Care Treatment

This is a full size product. It is a treatment for your hair to repair it if it is damaged. It is meant to make hair shiny and healthy. This is another product I am excited about using because I always like trying different products to improve the condition of my hair. Retail price: £12.95/200ml

5. Plum by Mary Greenwell- Eau de Parfum

This perfume is the 'signature fragrance by world-renowned celebrity makeup artist Mary Greenwell'. I thought it was pretty strong when I first applied it but it fades into a beautiful soft berryish, fruity scent. This can be purchased for £60/50ml.

Overall, I am loving this box! I have enjoyed past boxes but this time I am really happy with everything.

What do you think of the products in this months' Glossybox?

MAC and BeneFit Haul

Wednesday, 14 September 2011

I did say I had another haul coming up and here it is!
MAC's Semi Precious Collection came out a couple of months ago and I couldn't get hold of the MSF I wanted- I did end up getting it now and was so pleased!

This one is 'Rose Quartz'. The best thing about it is that it can be used in three different (or more?) ways. The outer part is a gorgeous pink, a little coral- it is such a flattering shade for blush. The inner section is a shimmery champagne shade which is perfect for highlighting. Combining the two gives a pretty (but shimmery) colour that can be used for blush too.
I don't think the swatch really does justice to the actual colour pay off. I am loving how this looks and I think it is a good buy because it can be used for various purposes and in different combinations.

Next I got the very popular 'Satin Taupe' eye shadow.

I haven't used this shade yet but to be honest it doesn't seem like such an amazing shade. Obviously I might think differently once I have used it a few times. I got it in pan form which means that I can add it as the last eye shadow to my Z Palette.

Lastly, I got the new mascara by BeneFit. 'They're Real' has had a lot of hype surrounding it. I have found that there have mainly been positive reviews and it really seems like this mascara works well.

The bristles are the rubbery type, which is the kind of mascara I usually really like. I have yet to use this too but I am looking forward to using it to see if it really is as good as reviewers have said it is.

That completes this haul, what do you think of these items?
