Review: L'oreal Studio Secrets Smoothing Resurfacing Primer

Thursday, 17 November 2011
Hiya,

How many of us have been on the hunt for the perfect face primer? I know that I have tried so many different ones but always wished there was something more to them. Something that would really keep my face matte, that would make my skin look smooth and fresh and perfect... Is that even possible??

I suppose you could say I came very close to that when I came across the L'oreal Smoothing Resurfacing Primer for the face. I have tried a number of primer's but was always left wondering whether it actually had made any difference.

The packaging for this primer is actually a downside (way to start a positive review!). I don't really like dipping my fingers in to get the product out. The ugly looking sticker from Superdrug doesn't exactly help with the look of the packaging either but overall I think it does look pretty nice.

As you can see from the picture, the product is creamy and smooth. It is quite thick which normally I would hesitate to put on my face because I like products on my face to be light. This however blends like a dream and feels weightless but at the same time smoothens my skin out so well.

Wearing foundation on top of this and removing it around 10 hours later, I have found that it keeps my face a lot more matte than usual and also keeps the makeup from sliding off a few hours later.

I look a lot fresher with this primer throughout the day which I feel is exactly what we want in a primer.

It is slightly pricier than other High Street branded primer's at £14.29 but there is a 3 for 2 offer on at Superdrug where you can purchase it. I have heard though, that the Anti-Shine Mattifying Primer is the same but in liquid form and cheaper so I might give that a go next time.

Have you tried this? Would you pay this price for a high street brand primer?

  2. I have a mixed relationship with this product. On the one hand it's nice to see highstreet primers out there. I think it does an excellent job of smoothing out my skin and makes foundation application idiot proof. On the other hand I don't find this keeps the oilys at bay for me. I tend to use this everywhere but my nose and a more mattifying primer on my nose. Fab review! x

  3. I'm in dire need of a primer and it's nice to know that the high street can produce decent products. £15 is a bit steep for L'Oreal, but not too bad overall. Fab review!

  4. Jeneille then it definitely would be worth it!

Claire, I was actually quite surprised that I didn't get very oily to be honest, my skin is usually really oily! I guess it just shows that products work differently on everyone x

Chrissy, it is pretty expensive which is why I'm looking to try out the other one but if this continues to work in the same way I would say its worth it. Thank you x x

  5. I really want a primer like that one. Like you, I'm always disappointed with the primers I use, but if it really works as you say, I don't mind paying more! =) thank you for the review!

  8. Thanks for the review. I have been looking for a new primer and read lots of great things about this one and to be on honest I don't think the price is all that bad. I've paid US$32 for a primer and liked it but still have not found the one. I hate the one I current use (Too Faced Primed & Poreless). I used to love it and now it just doesn't feel right. I think this will be my next purchase. Thanks :)

  10. I had a small sample size packet of it- thank god I did not buy a full size- this did not suit with my skin. I had a massive break out- don't know if it really was an allergy or it just clogged my pores badly.
