2011 Favourites: Face Products

Thursday, 22 December 2011

Since it is the end of the year and also almost the end of the first year of my blog, I thought I would share with you the products that I have enjoyed the most throughout this year.

Starting off with the face products, I actually discovered quite a number of new ones. I did delve into the higher end products more this year and have been pleasantly surprised at how (certain) ones can really change your outlook on make up application.

For an eye cream, I have used the Origins Starting Over cream, which actually I purchased as a mistake. I was meant to buy a different one but purchased the Anti-Ageing one instead. Having said that though, I really love this cream. It is hydrating, it moisturises very well and I feel like it has really prevented my eyes from looking too tired. It is pricey (approximately £26), but worth it.

The L'oreal Studio Secrets Face Primer is quite a recent buy. It blew the rest of my primer's out of the water though! All year I have been on the look out for a decent primer that keeps my oiliness at bay and also helps to keep foundation on for longer. This product does just that and I love it!

NARS is a lovely luxury brand which I only really got into this year. I had heard so much about the Sheer Glow Foundation that I had to try it. This is a foundation which gives sheer to medium coverage and for me, definitely needs powder on top to set it. I don't have too many imperfections on my skin so this is a great foundation for me. When I don't want to look too done up and want a nice glow, I go for this and find it works perfectly for me.

At the beginning of the year, when I first purchased the MAC Studio Fix Fluid, I liked it but I thought it was way too much for every day. I soon discovered that I actually was applying too much and didn't need more than half a pea size for the whole face. Now this is my daily foundation because it keeps me from getting oily but still gives me a glow.

The Collection 2000 Lasting Perfection Concealer has been my 'go to' for almost every time I have worn make up this year. It is cheap (£4.19 I think?), it covers really well and brightens the under eye area perfectly. It also lasts incredibly long, hence its' name I am guessing!

MAC's Select Cover-Up Concealer is very very similar but has a considerably higher price tag. You also need just the tiniest amount (and you do get a lot of product) so that kind of makes up for it. I have been varying between this and the Collection 2000 one since I have bought this. If you are on the lookout for a good high end concealer, I would recommend this.

My favourite blush without a doubt this year has been Deepthroat by NARS. I mean, just look at it! It is such a beautiful shade of pink with a little peach, and gold shimmer. The perfect blush which goes with almost any look! I have worn the heck out of this blush since I bought it and just know I will be wearing it for years to come!

Lastly, when it comes to setting foundation, or just face powder in general, I am very picky. The reason is, because I get quite flaky skin around my nose and detest it when make up cakes up around that area. I tried the MAC Mineralize Skinfinish Natural, a Rimmel powder, the ELF Studio one and a few others but this one has by far surpassed them all. It is smooth, silky and goes on so naturally. It doesn't cake up, it doesn't accentuate my flaws- on the contrary it hides them pretty well. I have worn this every single time I have applied make up and there has not been one day when it has not worked for me. It is definitely a product I will not hesitate to buy again!

All in all, it has been a pretty good year for face products. They are the most important for me, as if they work well for your face, the rest of the make up will just come together pretty easily.

I am currently using my Clinique Dramatically Different Moisturising Gel but really want to try something different which makes a noticeable difference to my skin. That is pretty much why I don't have a favourite for a face cream. Any recommendations?

  4. There's some really good picks in here! I've tried both of the concealers you featured, but I actually prefer Collection2000 to the MAC one, as I find the edges blend a lot easier.
Nars Sheer Glow is definitely going on my to-try list once I run out of my beloved Chanel Vitalumiere Aqua.
