My May Favourites

Tuesday, 31 May 2011

Since it is the last day of May I think it is the perfect time to do my favourites of this month.

I have tried to be very good in the last month and only made one make up purchase which was a GOSH primer, but that was a necessity as I had finished my old one and just cannot go without one because my face can get very oily.
GOSH Foundation Primer Cream
This is the new foundation primer cream which I had been wanting to try out, especially since chicbeautyblog recommended it. It has worked so well for me, I can't see myself going back to the MAC Prep+Prime Skin Base primer after this. It prevents my skin from going oily and just makes my skin look so smooth when I apply foundation over the top of it.

MAC Fluidline, Blacktrack
I have been wearing MAC's fluidline in 'Blacktrack' almost every day in the month of May and have loved the lasting power in it. It isn't the most crazy pigmented of gel liners but I love it for every day use!

Korres Lip Butter in Mango
The Korres Lip Butter in 'Mango' is a definite favourite because not only does it smell amazing, it looks great with a subtle tint and moisturises my lips really well.
Origins Starting Over Eye Cream
I've only recently bought this eye cream by Origins but have been loving it so much. It is so hydrating and I really feel like it makes my whole eye area look a lot smoother.
NARS blush in Deepthroat
This was my first NARS blusher and I really have to agree with the hype, this blusher is amazing! I love how it looks on my face; it gives a beautiful glow but looks very natural.
MUA Eyeshadow in Shade 12
This is a gorgeous shade! When I'm in a hurry, all I need to do is apply this shade all over the lid and it looks like I've made a huge effort in my eye make up. It is only £1 and can be purchased at Superdrug- I'd definitely recommend checking it out.

That is all for my May favourites, I do plan on posting every day this week, especially as I have been away for a while and haven't been posting as regularly.

What have you been loving this month?

Review: Lush Bubblegum Lip Scrub

Thursday, 26 May 2011

Whenever I walk past Lush, I am always tempted to walk in and pick something up but since I'm so busy with family, I never really get the opportunity to relax in the tub- it's always a quick five minute shower early in the morning!

The last time I went to Lush, I picked up something I actually would be able to use- a lip scrub. My lips do get dry very easily and I constantly need to wear a lip balm of some sort and have to exfoliate often too to make sure my lips stay smooth.
I got the scrub in 'Bubblegum' which was the scent that attracted me the most. It obviously smells just like bubblegum and very sweet.
This scrub contains sugar which is what helps to exfoliate the lips. The main directions are just to apply this to your lips and either, lick it off (it does taste good!) or just wipe it off and it will leave your lips feeling very soft. I find it a bit strange to lick it off so I tend to just wipe it off with a tissue.

This product really works! It makes my lips really really smooth and when I apply lipstick, it goes on so smoothly. Even MAC's 'Hue' (which I have a love/hate relationship with because of how it brings out the flakiness in my lips) looks great on my lips after using this scrub.

It is priced at £4.75 for 25g of product which I find to be reasonable for a lip scrub because it does last a long time.

All in all, I love this, I want to try out the other flavours too- have you tried them? Which one do you like?

Brand Alley Haul- Essie Nail Polishes

Tuesday, 24 May 2011

I received the Essie Nail polishes that I purchased from BrandAlley around a week ago. I had been waiting for these for around a month so was glad to finally get them.

This is the spring collection and contains four 16oz/5ml nail polishes. The shades are so pretty.
They are soft colours which I really like. The one that I was most excited about was 'Topless and Barefoot' and it most certainly has lived up to the expectation! I have worn it once and just kept looking down at my nails every so often just to admire the gorgeous shade. It doesn't look like much but it is beautiful (I will do a NOTD on it soon).

The blue is also very different to what I have bought in the past and I'm looking forward to wearing it.

I really like the deals BrandAlley have on their website, you can sometimes find something really great at a low price.

I think I'm going to try and resist in future with nail polishes, my collection seems to have grown vastly (for someone who doesn't wear nail polish very often). I've never finished a bottle, so maybe it would be a good idea to wear what I have, rather than get one whenever it catches my eye!

What do you think of the shades? Which one do you like best?

Review: Accessorize Bronzer in Golden Sand

Monday, 23 May 2011

Accessorize came out with a cosmetics line some time ago and I was excited to try the mineralized products, especially the bronzers because they looked a lot like MSF's from MAC.

When I purchased the bronze in 'Golden Sand', it did look similar to something I already had, which was MAC's MSF in 'Soft & Gentle'. That is a little more pink and more glittery than this bronzer but that is why I prefer this one.
This is literally a 'golden sand' shade and gives the most amazing glow to the face.

For me, this definitely can't be used as a bronzer but it is a gorgeous highlight! I have been using this almost every day since I purchased it. It goes on beautifully and looks so natural.
It has turned into one of my favourite highlighters because of its' versatility. No matter what look I am doing, this highlighter always works.

It is priced at £7 and can be bought from Superdrug in the UK.

First Impressions: Glossy Box

Saturday, 21 May 2011

I was a little late in receiving my GlossyBox because I had missed the postman a few days before. I hate it when that happens!

I did get it this morning though and was so excited for it! I had sneaked a look at some reviews on the contents of the box and so knew what to expect.

I will do a more in depth review once I have used all the products but I wanted to share the pictures with you all.

(Apologies for the quality of the pics- it is a new camera and I have yet to figure out how to use it properly)

NARS Illuminator in 'Orgasm'
This NARS Illuminator was the one product that everyone was most excited about- I think its gorgeous, but in all honesty I probably wouldn't buy it myself. That's not to say I won't use it, because I definitely will; but I feel like I would probably spend my money on buying maybe a blush from NARS instead. It is still pretty surprising that Glossy Box gave us a full size product worth £21.50!

All for Eve lipstick in 'Eve Red'

All I can say about this lipstick is that it is the perfect red! This is exactly the kind of red that goes well with my skin tone, so I can't wait to wear it.

Bionova Cleanser
This oil cleanser is for Normal/Dry skin which I don't have, but I might just give it to my sister who does have dry skin and it might work for her.

Como Shambhala lotion
This has quite a strong smell of geranium and peppermint, but I quite like it. It is different to what I normally use- hopefully it will work well too!

Alterna Caviar Anti-Aging Rapid Repair Spray
This spray smells amazing! It has quite a fruity scent, I don't really have much else to say about it at the moment until I use it.

For £10 a month, this box is definitely worth trying. A few of you may not really like the idea of this because you might not like even one product out of all the ones you are sent but for those of you who like surprises and trying out different products, this is fabulous!

What do you think of the contents of the box this month?

First Impressions: NARS Deepthroat Blush

Thursday, 19 May 2011

I've been ill with the flu recently and my laptop has been playing up too which has prevented me from blogging but it's something I've missed so I am glad to be back!

I have been wanting the NARS Deepthroat blush for months but because of the price, I always held back.

A couple of weeks ago, ASOS had a free next day delivery offer on and so I took advantage of that and ordered this blush. It is priced at £20.50 which is pretty expensive but with NARS products, you can pretty much guarantee that you will get a fantastic product.
I really love how this looks! It is a pretty peachy pink with gold shimmer. It looks so natural and 'glowy' on the skin. I found it so easy to blend into my skin and it just looked like the colour was meant to be on my cheeks.

So far, I'm loving it and am considering trying out Albatross too which I've heard so much about.

I will do an in depth review once I have used this for a few weeks. Hopefully I will still love it as much as I do now!

Have you tried NARS blushes? What are your favourites?

Review: Limecrime and Michael Todd Cream Eyeshadows/Bases

Saturday, 14 May 2011

I was sent a few eye bases from Love-Makeup recently. I was excited to receive these products because I've always had issues with eye make up not lasting that long on my eyes and it was great to be able to try some products out- especially products which I had my eye on for some time.

The first is the Lime Crime Eye Shadow Helper. This was something I was really excited about because I have very oily eyelids and find it so difficult to get eye shadow to stay on my lids uncreased. Although I have a few bases that work well as primers, I'm always on the lookout for more that will keep eye shadow on a little longer.
This base is creamy in consistency and applies quite smoothly. It doesn't have a colour to it once it is applied to the lid. With this product I found that it brightens up eye shadows and makes them last all day. I really was thoroughly impressed with how this helped eye shadow stay on my lid.

The only downside to it is that you do need a waterproof eye make up remover to take it off completely. The product is difficult to get off with just a normal make up remover. For a lot of people, this could be a good thing though, knowing that it won't melt off after a few hours.

I also received two cream eye shadows by Michael Todd. I have never tried their products before but have always been watching and reading reviews on them since they launched last year.
Surprisingly, although both products are the same type, they have very different packaging. Michael Todd have probably changed their packaging which is why there is such a difference.
The first shade is a purple with gold shimmer. It is the shade 'Michael Todd'. I guess that is because the colour scheme for the brand is purple and this is that colour. It is unlike anything I have already although I'm sure there must be shades like this around.

The second shade is 'Flutter'. This is a champagne shade and it also has gold shimmer in it. Both are very creamy and easy to apply. They blend pretty well too although I did find that 'Michael Todd' was a tiny bit uneven. They are very similar to MAC's paint pots, which is an advantage since I really like paint pots and use them often.

I mainly wanted to see how soon these cream shadows crease after application. I found that they last a pretty long time. For me, they lasted around 6 hours before creasing. This for me, is actually pretty good.

Love Makeup were also kind enough to send me something as a little extra, which was a pack of The Brush Guard.
I haven't actually used them yet but I will put up a review once I have used them a few times. The idea of them is pretty good though!

Thanks once again to Love-Makeup for sending me the products, you can purchase these items at www.love-makeup.co.uk

NOTD: Barry M Mushroom

Thursday, 12 May 2011

I had been eyeing up 'Mushroom' by Barry M for weeks but I never thought to actually purchase it. I did think that I had something similar to this in my collection already but it turned out I didn't.

A few people have also been asking about this shade of nail paint and so I thought I would show you all what it looks like on my nails.
I find this shade to be so wearable. It isn't too crazy or too boring in my opinion and looks great with so many outfits. It is quite subtle and perfect for an everyday nail polish.

I can't fault Barry M nail paints, I have quite a few of them and they have never let me down!

This one is now definitely one of my go-to nail polishes!

Review: Stars Makeup Haven Eyeshadows

Friday, 6 May 2011

I have been trying out a few Stars Makeup Haven (or SMH) eye shadows and because I've been enjoying them a lot, I thought I would share them with you all. They are available on Love-Makeup which is a site I have mentioned numerous times in the past, for £4 each.

These eye shadows can be bought only in pan form which suits me perfectly because it means I can just add them to my palettes. They are the same size as MAC eye shadows which can be an advantage.

I started off with just a couple because I wasn't sure what they would be like. I now have seven shades and will probably buy more in the future.
These eye shadows are creamy and very smooth. I always wear eye shadow with some sort of base underneath which makes them pop a lot more. These ones though, even without a base are so vibrant and pigmented.

I used to purchase MAC eye shadows and, although they are really good quality, if I can find something that does the same job at a cheaper price, I will definitely go for it.

For the price, I do think these are worth it. When I want single eye shadows, I now tend to gravitate towards these because there are many shades to choose from and in different finishes.

What do you think of them?

Review: E.L.F Studio HD Powder

Thursday, 5 May 2011

I have had the HD Powder by E.L.F for over a year now and use it often. I had always heard a lot about Make Up Forever's HD Powder but felt like it was too pricey and so I never invested in it. When I discovered E.L.F, I was very surprised to see a product like this at such a good price. For £6, you get a pretty large container with a decent amount of product.
The packaging is quite large and chunky. It is quite sleek looking but I think it is too large to carry around in your purse for touch ups. It comes with a powder puff, which I don't tend to use. Also, I would recommend just poking a few holes into the sticker that is over the sifter, rather than removing it completely as this just makes the product fly everywhere!

The product claims to create a 'soft focus effect to the skin' and that it 'masks fine lines and imperfections for a radiant complexion'.

The first thing I noticed was how finely milled it was. I hadn't used a product like this before and so didn't have any expectations. After applying my make up, I used a large powder brush to brush this powder all over my face. It instantly gave my face a 'softer' look. I'm not sure about it masking any fine lines because luckily I don't have any yet.

I like the overall finish that this powder gives to my face. It doesn't leave a white mask (obviously used in moderation!). It does need reapplying a few times throughout the day but having oily skin, that would be a given with most products anyway.

I am kind of on the fence with this. In my opinion, it is a great product, but the packaging does let it down a little- if it was less bulky it would be great to just throw in your make up bag. However, at a great price (for a HD powder) I do think it is worth trying out.

Mini Superdrug Haul

Wednesday, 4 May 2011

I bought a few products from Superdrug on Monday and thought I'd share them with you.
Barry M had an offer of two nail paints for £4.99 and I really wanted to try these two so I picked them up. The first is 'Mushroom' which is a greyish brown. I love shades like these and had to have it. The second is 'Peach Melba' which I have heard a lot about but I'm not that impressed with it to be honest. The shade just isn't for me. Maybe it is my skin tone or just that I don't feel like this shade flatters me at all.  A lot of other people love it though so it is likely that most of you will too.

I also went ahead and purchased an MUA eyeshadow. I've heard so much about them and have bought one previously but I didn't feel like it was that smooth. Maybe it was just that shade though.
This one is no. 12 and is apparently, a dupe for MAC's 'Club' eye shadow. I am really impressed with its quality! It is silky smooth and blends beautifully. I also really like the shade, it is very wearable and looks different in varied lighting. For £1 this was a real bargain!

That's all for my small haul, have you tried MUA products? Which ones do you like best?

My April Favourites

Sunday, 1 May 2011

Where did April go? I can't believe it is May already and time for another favourites post. I have however, been using some new (and some old) products which I am loving!

The first is NARS Sheer Glow foundation which was a purchase that was made earlier this month.
I am in the shade 'Santa Fe' which I thought would be too light for me but actually blends in to my skin really well. I love the glow this foundation gives me without making my skin too oily throughout the day. I'm surprised at how much I like this because before this, I had always used my MAC Studio Fix Fluid and swore by it. These are two very different foundations though so I can't really compare them.

The second is the Collection 2000 Lasting Perfection Concealer.

This concealer was in my March favourites post too (where the name of it hadn't worn of yet!). This is a concealer I have worn every day and can't get enough of! It beats all of my concealers with its consistency, coverage and long wear.

I have been using the Accessorize bronzer in 'Golden Sand' and MAC's blush in 'Peachy Keen' pretty much all month.

Combined with the NARS foundation, it has given my face a gorgeous glow without looking oily. I really like both these products together because I feel like they compliment each other.

For my lips I have been using an OCC lip tar in 'Harlot' whenever I have wanted a bright red.
This is a fiery red which suits my skin tone really well. I tend to keep the rest of my make up natural when I wear this on my lips. I like OCC lip tars in general; they last a long time and are so pigmented.

On my eyes, MAC's Fluidline in 'Blacktrack' has been the perfect liner.
This liner glides on so smoothly and is very easy to use. It is also nicely pigmented- perfect for everyday use.

Lastly, I have two brushes which I have been using a lot this month.

Both brushes are for the eyes. The first is a Sigma E40 which is a tapered blending brush. It blends eye shadow so well and so effortlessly! I purchased this brush from Cocktail Cosmetics- they stock most, if not all Sigma brushes.

The second brush is the angled eyeliner C160 Crown brush. I have a number of angled liner brushes but I just love the size and angle of this brush. It is very reasonably priced too, at around £4.

That pretty much wraps up my favourites for this month. I'm getting into the summery mood now so will probably be using a lot of peaches and corals in the next month!

What are you loving right now?
