Review: ELF Matte Finisher Nail Polish

Thursday, 25 August 2011
Hiya,

I purchased the new Matte Finisher Nail Polish by ELF a few weeks ago. I have since had a few people asking me about it and since I have been trying it out, I thought I would do a review on it.
I used a nail polish by O.P.I called 'Yodel Me On My Cell'.

Sorry about the messy application but this does give you an indication of how the nail polish becomes really matte. I did use O.P.I's top coat on the other finger.

As you can tell, there is no shine on my ring fingernail. It is completely matte. I found the application to be very easy. The nail polish glides on and dries quickly. It also doesn't chip very quickly which is a definite advantage.

For £1.50, this is a must have in my collection. Although I don't wear nail polish all the time, sometimes I do like to have a more toned down look on my nails and this is perfect for that!

You can purchase this at ELF's website.

Superdrug and Boots Haul

Tuesday, 23 August 2011
Hiya,

I am finding it really difficult to post these days but I will definitely be getting back in to it by mid-September. Two weeks ago I was at Boots and Superdrug and picked up what I wanted before I started my spending ban.

I needed a new deodorant so picked up the Garnier one that has just come out. So far it seems to be doing the job, although I'm not that fussy with them usually!

I have heard a lot about the Boots Botanics Eye Makeup Remover and so got this. I haven't tried it yet as I am trying to finish an older one but I have high hopes! The Herbal Essences Shampoo was just a necessity which I purchased.

I wanted a summery smelling body mist and after seeing a post about the Natural Collection ones by Pyari Beauty I had to get it. It smells amazing and is perfect to spritz on, on a hot summers day.. although I have yet to experience a decent one here!

Next, the much talked about BB Cream that was launched in the UK recently. I really wanted to try this and I am so glad I did.

I have used this a few times now and am loving it! I don't have much discolouration on my face and don't always need a medium/full coverage foundation. This is fabulous for the days when I want to quickly put some make up on. It blends very well too. I will probably do a full review on it once I have used it for a while.

The Cream Puff's by Collection 2000 have been talked about so much recently. I wondered what they were all about- pretty impressed so far!
Cream Puff in 'Fairy Cake'
I can't go in to Superdrug and not check out the MUA section. Meadowhall still has not put up the Professional line yet but I live in hope! I saw a set of three MUA shadows on sale for 99p which I had to get of course! Sadly, the one I wanted the most was smashed so that left me with two.

Getting home I realised I already have the darker shade. I guess it was still worth it for the pretty light purple shade.

I used the £5 voucher I had, at the No7 counter in Boots. This brush was £7.50 so for £2.50 it was a bargain! It is a pretty good eyeshadow/blending brush too!
The much hyped Pout Paints by Sleek were in stock and so I had to get these. They were also on offer at 3 for 2 so I took advantage.
Left to right: Port, Peachy Keen, Minx

I absolutely adore the shade in 'Port'! It is so beautiful! I will be experimenting a lot with these once I get the opportunity.

I have been on a ban for the last week or so but I have plenty to play around with now!

First Impressions: Glossybox- August

Hiya,

I received the Glossybox for this month in the morning. I was actually expecting it to arrive tomorrow but was pleasantly surprised!

I didn't know what to expect this time around. I was hoping to get a make up product and something for my hair. I was definitely happy when I saw what was inside.
This is a heat protectant that also controls frizz. It is a full size bottle which retails at a price between £10-13.

I have never tried these before but have been wanting to. I just never got around to looking for some that I really liked. These are usually pretty pricey for a one use product. I am not sure I like the ones I got though. Skulls etc are not really my style so I might see if I can swap them with someone or I might just try them out anyway to see if I like the quality of them. Retail price: £9.

Murad has been a brand I have seen around quite a lot but always hesitated in purchasing something because they seem quite pricey. I was very happy to see this in the glossybox though and am looking forward to using it. Retail price: £22 for 200ml.
I have never heard of this brand but I like the smell of this lotion. I have so many lotions but I am looking forward to trying this. Retail price: Around £18 for 250ml.

You can never try too many mascara's and so I am excited to be trying this one. It is supposed to be very volumising. I don't usually like these type of bristles; rubbery ones work better with my lashes but I'll give it a try. Retail price: £15

I'm pretty happy with the box this month. It is completely worth it.

Did you get this box? What were your thoughts on the products you received?

Update!

Wednesday, 17 August 2011
Hiya,

I have not been around due to being so busy recently- just another three weeks and I'll have a little more time on my hands. I thought I would just share with you some pictures of my day at the Peak District.

It is absolutely gorgeous and we love to go out there when we want to get away for a while. I would have taken more pictures but ended up just enjoying the views.

The best thing about it is that it is just a twenty minute drive from where I live!

I still haven't picked a winner for the Apothica giveaway that ended a week ago but I will definitely have that done in the next couple of days- keep your eyes peeled!

Review: Too Faced Natural Eye Palette

Monday, 8 August 2011
Hiya,

For so many months, we have all seen and read so much about the Urban Decay Naked Palette. I too, have been one to rave about it whenever I spoke to someone about make up. It is definitely an all time favourite of mine. However, after using it non-stop for a few months, I wanted to try out eye shadows from a different brand.

I had been seeing many reviews on the Too Faced Natural Eye palette which, although has been compared to the Naked palette, it was always pointed out how very different they both are.
I would have to agree! Although this is also a neutral's palette, the shade's are not the same. There are a few that can be compared, but most of them are unique.

What I like about this palette is that it is pretty compact- enough for it not to take up too much space when travelling. It is also very pretty looking.

It comes with three little cards which tell you where to apply the eye shadows. I honestly have not even read them yet.

The eye shadows are smooth and silky feeling but not at all chalky. The matte shades (top row) are very blend-able and I particularly like the middle shade, 'Velvet Revolver' for blending shades together. It is also very similar to Urban Decay's 'Naked' eye shadow.

The bottom two rows have got to be my favourite. I love 'Silk Teddy' as a lid colour. 'Push Up', 'Honey Pot' and 'Cocoa Puff' are also just gorgeous!

The one shade that I am not particularly attracted to is 'Nude Beach'. It is a lovely shade but the fallout is crazy! It is just too glittery and I don't see myself using it at all.

This palette retails at £23 which I do think is very expensive.

Overall, I like the palette but it is highly unlikely that I will repurchase.

What do you think?

Haul: ELF

Sunday, 7 August 2011
Hiya,

I took advantage of the 50% off offer that was on a few weeks ago. This will be one of (I have one more coming up soon) my last hauls in a long time. I am planning on doing a Project 10 pan, although i am not sure how successful it will be!

I picked up a brush holder; my brush collection seems to be getting larger and I was finding difficulty in fitting them into my smaller holder.
I wanted to try the Matte Finisher which is a new product by ELF. It looked quite intriguing.
I have yet to try it, but after reading good reviews, my hopes are quite high!

I also wanted to stock up on another brush cleaner- my last one is almost done.

ELF has recently come out with some new products which I was quite excited to try. One of them is the set of three eye primers.

I used the champagne one once and was surprised at how well it worked. It definitely prevented my eyeshadow from creasing.

As you may know, I love the blushes from the Studio line. I had been wanting to try Peachykeen for the longest time. With 50% off, I decided to go ahead and get it.

I am actually pretty disappointed. It barely shows up on my skin. I might just give it away to a friend/relative.

I've never used lip liners in the past. I purchased a NYX Lip Pencil a few months back and have been hooked since. They are great bases for making lipstick last longer!

This lip liner is from the mineral line in Rose. It is a very pretty shade, almost neutral so it will go quite well with most every day lipsticks that I wear.

Lastly, there was a new brush from the Studio line. It is an eye liner brush which is the kind that I like to use. I used to use angled brushes but recently have been liking the usual, longer bristled eye liner brushes when I want a thin line.

The bent shape helps to position the brush properly and I find it quite helpful.

Overall, I was very pleased with this haul; ELF is a very affordable brand which, although is sometimes hit and miss in quality, I have found that it is very rare that I will have a complaint from the Studio line.
